Go Slow

What makes a good day?

Well firstly, what is a good day? A good day to me is a day when you had so much fun and joyous memories, you think back to that day very often and still laugh at the little bits of humour sprinkled throughout the day.

It’s pretty rare, but what makes a good day to me is usually just a friend, hanging out with me, for the day, with no other plans. Of course we don’t literally meet from early morning to late at night, well that is rare. But just going about our day and chilling without any plans later in the day affecting us really makes the day more magical.

It was really rare, but Namie had an entire day off and she spent it with me. She twisted her ankle and was in crutches and was on MC, but she was already free for the day prior to her mishap. Obviously, we agreed on a simple but fun photoshoot. Heading to Pearl’s Centre’s carpark, we enjoyed a good two hours focused on our shoot with hardly anyone around hindering. We previously did our shoot at the Lower Pierce Reservoir and while it was a nice naturish landscape, there were quite a few people having their walks as well.

I have to admit that our shoots was one of my best. Straight to the point with a rough concept in mind, good chemistry and good precedent studies helped a lot. I visited Pearl’s Centre before with a friend so I had a good feel of the place and knew what I wanted to do, and boy did I execute my plans pretty well.

Having no rush, we could take our time with lunch and coffee later. She’s the crazy egg tofu friend as well. We’re always sending each other pictures of egg tofu whenever we eat them and get so excited over it. Hence, no prized for guessing what we had for lunch.

This is why I appreciate such good days. Just a whole day dedicated to someone, absorbing the person’s personality and sharing good personal jokes and memories. Such days don’t come often. Melbourne with Isabel was great, lunch and music recording with Crystal last year was smooth as well. Cataract Gorge with Annabelle was pretty memorable too with polaroids as memories.

Omg I just realized they are all with girls lol. Friends pointed out that I always hang out with pretty girls. Is it true? I honestly hang out with the bros more often, just that I don’t exactly document the bullshit we talk about incessantly.

I still think about this outing with Namie with a smile. I may have a few close friends, but boy do I treasure them.

Anyway, presenting to you my newest photoset, Go Slow.

And the out-takes.

What do you think of the photos, guys? Which one do you think is the best?

“Go slow
I wanna hear the floorboards squeak
And I go slow
I wanna fill the space between
If you’re giving what you’re giving to me
Feeling like a new machine
And if you’re living how you’re living for me
I wanna hear the floorboards squeak”

I rushed to Hard Rock Hotel for the Nightwish concert right after work. Upon reaching, I needed to head to the toilet before the gig started, looking for the toilet, I finally saw the directional signs leading quite inside of the building. There were tons of concert crew around and they mostly seemed Finnish. Upon reaching the front of the toilet, I frickin saw Troy, and if that wasn’t the bomb, I walked into the toilet and saw the man, Tuomas Holopainen, himself. Starstruck moment right there. I just said hi and he replied with a ‘hello’ back. His big burly crew member was beside him so I dared not ask for a photo, but man, what a start to the night.

Met up with Han and Dickon and eventually lost them in the crowd as I met up with Andrea and her friend. The concert was wild, was loud, it was everything every Nightwish fan could have asked for. Han wanted them to play Nemo, they did. Dickson wanted them to play The Poet and the Pendulum, they did. I wanted them to play Stargazers, they did. I forgot what Lynn wanted them to play, she was just happy all the way. Floor Jansen was awesome, Tuomas was such a diva, Marco was so cool, Emppu was just a joker, Troy was just being himself, Kai was pretty zennish on the drums. I really hope they come again, this isn’t over. WE WERE HERE!!!!

Rat Race

I’ve been too busy to update about my life ever since work started, but yet there’s so much I want to share. One of the biggest things that has happened in January is of course the Nightwish concert, but I feel that should be seperated into a different post which I will get to another day.

I finally tried Pacamara, the cafe joint that took over our beloved Liquid Kitchen. It was one of those cafes that try real hard to be healthy, and that reduces my options since I don’t eat so much vegetables. Still, their cabonara was pretty decent. I had brunch there with Crystal and it was a real good catch up with a friend I know I should be meeting up more often.

A lot of people know that I really liked Crystal, not really a secret anymore. It is the story of how I chased her for 6 years and only finally let it go 2 years after, making it 8 years total. Which is why I have been single for so long. I never lost sight of her. While that is the past now, I was thinking to myself, of course it would be nice if she could reciprocate how I feel, but it really is just some personal fantasy already.

Other than Namie, Crystal is also one of the best vocalists I have ever worked with too. Patient with my style and totally open to whatever I write, she dilligently learns the lines of my own songs and adds her own touch to it (Namie records covers with me only). With my other friends planning to do a cover of Nightwish’s The Crow, The Owl, The Dove, it will be fun roping Crystal in again and sing a duet again. My voice blends better with her than Namie? Maybe, but we’ve been friends for so long (okay I counted, 10 years already) and we’ve been jamming and working together for 7 years, it’s only normal that we have so much chemistry and understanding.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not being bittersweet, I just feel so lucky that I have such a good friend, who doubles up as a good musician as well.

I’ve got very exciting news to share as well! I shall talk more on another day, but in a nutshell, I have started planning my solo trip to Japan in October. Yeah it is a long way to go, but I have started doing the costings for the trip already and it is looking up to be pretty good. I can also confirm that I will be seeing Ayaka and Asami as well! I am so looking forward. I contacted Yumi and Rumi as well, but still awaiting their reply. That being said, I can also be comforted that there will be friends to show me around Kansai as well. So excited!!!
